The 4th District Council Special Election is just weeks away. If you live in Los Altos, Stearns Park, Anaheim Corridor or the Traffic Circle area it is important you vote.
So how did we get ourselves into a position of having an election day, in only the 4th district. Our previous representative, Patrick O'Donnell was geared and set to run for the State Assembly in 2012, which would have left the position open for new candidates on it's normal fourth year voting cycle. Daryl Supernaw, who had worked closely with O'Donnell on many community projects, Â was one of the first to throw his hat into the ring. The monkey wrench that stopped this logical order was Bonnie Lowenthal's late decision to make a run for the State Assembly. Since both O'Donnell and Lowenthal are Democrats, he couldn't challenge her on the same ticket. So O'Donnell's only option, if he wanted to keep his name recognition program in place for an eventually State Assembly run, was to become a write-in candidate for a third term as 4th District Councilperson.
The rest is history, if you will, but here is a quick re-cap. Daryl  won the primary, with O'Donnell coming in a close 2nd as a write-in. O'Donnell won the election and two years later finally made that run for Assembly, where he handily beat Suja Lowenthal. Â
So here we are with Daryl, campaigning again. There is a horrible quote from Barbara Bush, that goes, "Nobody likes a child to die or losing an election" but after working on Daryl's last campaign, and suffering through the loss, I can see where she is coming from.Â
Daryl has worked as a volunteer for the city and the 4th District as a concerned citizen for many years. It was with tenacity that he was able to navigate bureaucracy for 20 years to get Atherton Ditch covered. It is with tenacity he is now making his third run for the 4th council position, which should have been easily his on the first go-around. Daryl has paid his due and now it's Daryl time!
Please vote on Tuesday, April 14 Â Â
