Los Altos Resident Gwen Goodman's shot of Blood Moon (April 2014)
The news predicted cloudy conditions for the first Lunar Eclipse of 2014 but thankfully they were wrong. Starting at approximately 11 pm the earth's shadow began blocking the sun's light from reaching the moon. The sun's rays were scattered through the atmosphere and still caused illumination of the sun, or as NASA so poetically described it as "all the sunset on the earth, projected onto the moon". The full eclipse lasted until about 2 am and luckily Los Altos resident and amateur Photographer Gwen Goodman did a fantastic job capturing all those sunsets.
