E.J. Malloy's Opening in the Old Fish Tale Location
A Story by Michele Kreinheder | Updated 09/10/2014 10:36pm
It has been just a little over a month since the long-time Los Altos establishment Fish Tale closed but E.J. Malloy's is ready to open its doors to business tomorrow at 11 in the morning. I don't expect to find a big change on either the interior or the menu or bar offerings but I have a feeling this will sit well with the conservative leaning Los Altos area.
This will now be E.J. Malloy's third location in Long Beach. They opened their first location on Broadway in 1990 and their second in Bixby Knolls in 2001, so obviously this family knows a thing or two about eateries/bars. Their marketing pieces say they are proud to be "Long Beach's neighborhood bar". I have to say, that they probably will become the Los Altos neighborhood bar. Of course, we do have the bars Poor Richard's and The Interlude but they are more our neighborhood "dive" bars. If E. J. Malloy's keeps the same hours as Fish Tale, which were to close up shop by 10 pm, they will be the more respectable of the area bars.
I have had the pleasure of trying their Fish-n-Chips on Broadway and I still get hungry every time I think about that meal. Let's face it, this is an impossible dish to mess up but I have seen it happen. I have had drinks at the Atlantic location and it seemed to serve its purpose as the neighborhood bar.
I think E.J. Malloy's is a perfect replacement for Fish Tale and a perfect fit for the neighborhood. From the comments on the Nextdoor site I can sense there is strong support from the residence wishing them success. I will be there tomorrow to help document the grand opening. Hope to see you there soon!
