Long Beach Sports Writers Grow in Front of my Eyes!

A Story by Michele Kreinheder | Updated 08/15/2013 1:25am

Could I have been one of the first readers to discover Michael Guardabascio and his coverage of the local sports events when he started about five years ago?  He covered everything, and he covered it well. From middle school soccer to Poly High Football, he was there and he wrote great in-depth articles. I remember thinking,  now here is someone with a passion, for obviously money wasn't the driving force. He wrote for a somewhat obscure website that could not have been paying him much. I attended a Century Club meeting around this time to do a blog about Wilson Baseball heading to the American Legion Tournament and Michael was there.  Even at that time I was impressed to see the guy in the flesh. So wrongly or rightly, I felt a sense of pride and a lot of happiness with announcement made in the Press-Telegram that both Guardabascio and his co-writer JJ Fidler had been hired as the new sports writers. I am proud to live in a city with a rich tradition of developing excellent athletes and Guardabascio and Fidler have always satisfied my needs for information on our young athletes.  Congratulations young men and keep on, keeping on with your passion. I am still here enjoying all of it. Michele K, Local Realtor and local sports nut!
