This is really going to happen. We are on the brink of bringing back a Los Altos holiday tradition from the 50s.
Back-in-the-day the houses circling Whaley Park each had a four foot tall letter covered in aluminum foil placed on their front yard. Each homeowner would illuminate the letters in the evening and to spell out the words, "Happy New Year" and "Merry Christmas".
Were you there for last year's Kick-off event? We didn't have much to offer but an old letter "R" and a sample letter "M" and a lot of hope that people would rise to the occasion to make it happen this year. People did rise to the occasion. The Boys Scout made the letters in their summer camp and are finishing up with some creative painting at this moment. Now we just need someone with professional lighting experience to help us bring the project home. Are you that someone? Maybe you have a connection to electrical supplies such as needed extension cords, timers, transformer, etc. Please email to MicheleK90185@gmail.com if you have any leads.
The "Lighting of the Letters Holiday Event" is planned for Sunday, December 4 starting at 3:00 in the afternoon. There will be music, a cookie potluck, hot cocoa, and a fantastic Santa Clause, but the highlight of the day will be the "Lighting of the Letters" at dusk. Mark your calendars and helps us bring back a Los Altos tradition.
