Who doesn't love a story about someone having vision, working hard and bringing the vision to fruition? What if the story starts with a 20-year old whose passion for Long Beach is his driving motivation? It gets even better, right? Well that is the story of John Grossi and his ever growing and successful Long Beach 908 Magazine. Grossi, a 2010 top-honors graduate of Wilson High School had his pick of colleges to attend. Surprisingly, and ironically, he picked the University of Pittsburgh, my and my husband's alma-mater. He enjoyed his freshman year but he realized that most of his classmates' career plans would keep them in Pennsylvania and he realized that his plans were definitely to return to Long Beach. So rather than make connections in a state 2,000 miles away, he transferred to Long Beach State for his sophomore year. That same year he started a magazine that was going to be about everything concerned with east Long Beach. The stories, the advertisers, the people that work on the magazine, all have a connection to Long Beach. While going to school full time John has successfully put out the magazine quarterly for a total of 908 days.  The advertisers are all east Long Beach based and the articles are unique to east Long Beach as well. Each edition has a unique theme and last month's "I remember when....." issue was hugely popular, as was the Athletes of Long Beach issue. I am extremely proud and honored to have occupied the magazine's back cover for the last two years.  John recently presented me with a plaque as being an Outstanding Business in East Long Beach. Now I would like to take this time to commend John Grossi for being an Outstanding East Long Beach Citizen helping to make our community even better. Oh, and if you want to meet John, you can find him and his cohorts loudly cheering on the CSULB Men's Basketball team. Just like his magazine, he can't be missed!
