Los Altos Council Race Starts Sooner Than You Think
A Story by Michele Kreinheder | Updated 11/23/2014 10:11pm
To no one's surprise Los Altos resident Patrick O'Donnell handily won the race for the Assembly on November 4. What you may not realize is that O'Donnell will be sworn into office in just two weeks on Monday, December 1. So where does that leave Los Altos and the rest of the 4th District when it comes to representation? According to the City Charter the council must first declare the position vacant and than a special election must be held in 120 days, so most likely it will fall on April 1. In the interim Mayor Garcia will either appointment a caretaker or his staff will handle the districts need.
If the future mimics the past, the race for the open position will have multiple candidates who are willing to work hard and if able, spend money to secure the position. A point to note is council positions, and therefore council races, are non-partisan, meaning the candidates do not declare themselves a member of any particular party. We won't know for sure who these non-partisan candidates will be until they officially throw their hat in the ring but expect the list to start growing sometime after December 2.
Stay tuned for more updates. They will be becoming sooner than you think!
