A Story by Michele Kreinheder | Updated 08/25/2014 9:24am
Simply stated, Sergeant Shredder is the best document shredding service in the Southland.
I had the pleasure, or I should say, extreme good fortune to stumble upon Sergeant Shredder back in 2009. At the time I was looking to hold a community Shred Event to raise money for a local middle school as well as promote myself as the new Realtor on the block. Â I must have called and emailed a least half a dozen shred companies who never responded, or if they did call back were down right surly about being bothered. Just as I was about to throw in the towel Sergeant Shredder called from my last online entry attempt. Â It turns out Sergeant Shredder was the new shredding company on the block and was looking to do promotional community events such as mine. It has been a match made in heaven ever since.
Our first event was a huge success and the word spread like wildfire to PTAs in Long Beach. Being an ex-PTA president I understood the need to raise funds so I was happy to share Sergeant Shredder's contact information. Â The PTA had been running successful E-waste events so I in turn asked for their contact person, which is how I met Gordon Eng of Omni-Tech out of Los Alamitos. They have been with us for each event since 2010.
Last year I added the collection of household batteries as an additional service. I correctly assumed everyone has old batteries lying around corroding since throwing them in the regular trash is environmentally unsound. It is mind boggling the amount of batteries I take to EDCO the weekend after the event. It feels good knowing that I am helping to dispose of these super caustic materials in a safe way.
But back to Sergeant Shredder. Dan Harnett is the owner-operator and the workhorse behind the Sergeant Shedder name and logo. Â Truth be told he does look like the logo and as one of our repeat participates recently informed me, very pleasing to the eye which is one reason she attends regularly. Whatever brings them to the truck is all good with us!
In five years time Dan Hartnett has grown the business tremendously and now has multiple shredding trucks, corporate accounts, and an increased work force. Â The companies to which he has been referred are pleased with both his service and pricing. Â If you know of anyone in need of shredding service you can feel confident in referring Sergeant Shredder.
Dan, Gordon and I will once again team up for our Fall Shred Event at Wilson High School on November 1, 2014 from 9 to 1. There is no charge for the shredding service but donations are gladly accepted.
