Oh my, how Long Beach's Snow Day has grown into a fantastic kid's event! When my children were babies Snow Day consisted of a pile of snow being delivered to Little Whaley Park. Years ago Patrick O'Donnell, the long-time 4th District Councilman reached out for the support of local businesses which helped transform Snow Day into the largest district sponsored event in Long Beach.

Each year we bring our trusty Stick Bug aquarium, because who isn't awed by a Walking Stick. We also returned with our Guess How Many Jelly Beans are in the jar game. We had nearly 800 people play and two people hit the number right on the head at 672; Congratulations to Elle Lundahl and Ian Chambers! New this year was our color book page coloring contest. The new Long Beach store Richie's Toys and Gifts did an excellent job putting together unique baskets for contestants 6 and under, and contestants 7 and above.  Shop locally at Richie's the next time you need a gift for a youngster, or a youngster at heart!  Our judge, a local art teacher and artist, had a heck of time picking a winner out of all our entries; there were nearly 100. We want to say a heartfelt thanks to each and every child (and parent) who entered the contest and I hope you had as much fun as we did. Congratulations to our winners Rachael Arega, age 9 and Ian Baldwin, age 5! Next year will bring another fun Snow Day event. Making new friends is the very best part of the event for us so please stop by our booth and say hi, but in the  meantime, Like us on Facebook. Better Living in Long Beach! Michele K
