Step-by-step Advice for Buyers
The very first step to home ownership, and probably the most important step is getting pre-approved by a lender. A good lender can quickly calculate how much of a loan you are able to obtain, and an excellent lender will offer much more.
And where do you find an excellent lender? Find yourself a competent Realtor and ask for a lender recommendation. Believe me, every good agent has an excellent lender on their team.
And what makes a lender excellent? They are hardworking, experienced, honest and caring. Find a lender who takes time to personally meet with you and answer all your questions (you will have many). Any lender can pre-qualify you quickly over the phone. Look for a lender who insists on a face-to-face first meeting.
I don’t want to get into the technical aspects of loans, but the bottom line is, if you never meet with a lender, you will never buy a home. It is that simple. You can’t write an offer with having a pre-approval letter.
Try to resist the temptation to start shopping for a property without having had an honest discussion with both a lender and a real estate agent. No one likes to be disappointed.
