Wilson's Female Leadership Academy did a phenomenal job of hosting Michele K's Fall Shred & E-waste Event.
I started these Shred Events back in 2010 with the hope they would be a win-win event. First it would be great way to promote myself as a Realtor but it would also raise money for the hosting school.
I am proud to say I walked away from the Wilson High School Event with a sense of accomplishment. The girls raised nearly $2,000 and the attendees couldn't have been more pleased with the service. Plus after all these years I have a faithful following which has translated into a solid business reputation.
Those girls ran the show and ran it well. They warmly greeted each customer that came through the gate, gave out a treat, helped unload E-waste and many containers of sensitive documents for shredding. The gentleman from the shredding company said they were unbelievably helpful, making his only chore pushing the buttons on the shredder! The girls also politely asked customers to sign up for Shred Event email reminders which is not the most fun job. They handled themselves with aplomb no matter which job they were assigned.
It was wonderful to see the growth of The Academy since our first Shred together in 2014. Back then there were just a few girls at the event. Kudos to Counselor's Stephanie Bilvado and Erika Medina for increasing membership and helping to turn this into the group of choice for motivated female students at Wilson High School. Most of the conversations I heard amongst the girls was about classes or where they were applying to college. What was really special was how respectfully they treated each other and their leaders.
As for me, these events have become a sort of homecoming. I know a good majority of the people who attend and it puts a smile on my face from all the warm greetings. Thank you Kim Orkin for suggesting these Shred Events all those years ago!
Can't wait to see the girls and you again in 2017. Mark your calendars for Saturday November 4 for Female Leadership Academy's 4th Annual Fall Shred & E-waste Event. Sign up below to be included on our Reminder Email List. Next Shred is April 8 from 9 to noon, at Minnie Gant Elementary School.
